About the Artist

Jody McMahon is a multimedia artist and photographer working in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her love of capturing and sharing images began when she was just a child. Jody's first camera was a small Kodak Instamatic with a revolving square flashcube attachment. Some of those early photos are still inspiring her and appearing in her current artwork. Today, Jody creates artwork featuring a wide variety of subject matter in scales both small and large. Regardless of the subject matter or the scale, she strives to tell a story or evoke a memory for her viewers in every piece of her work.

About the Artist

Jody's practice has evolved over several decades. Her current work is primarily created with encaustic paints. Encaustic is one of the earliest form of paint dating back over 2000 years. Encaustic painting has had an exciting resurgence in the art world as modern tools and materials have made it more practical for studio use. Jody makes her own encaustic paint by melting beeswax and damar resin. Dry pigments and oils are added to the medium to develop vibrant & luminous colors. The handmade encaustic medium is then melted, applied and heated to fuse layers of gorgeous color in order to create paintings with rich and brilliant layers of luminosity.

Jody exhibits her work in local Minneapolis galleries. Her work is also in private collections in Minnesota, Colorado, Texas and Missouri.

Profits from artwork sold by Jody McMahon are donated to the Charlotte's Web Foundation.
